Not every school leaver is ready for university or the world of work. . .
Many highly capable young adults leave school without a clear sense of direction and lacking the commercial skills, professional confidence and real workplace experience that today's employers value*.
University is the right path for some - but for others it can feel like an expensive next step taken without clarity.
Prologue was designed specifically for young adults facing this dilemma.
Lack of Direction
Many young adults leave school unsure of their strengths, interests or the careers available to them.
Skills
Gap
Young adults often enter the workforce lacking many of the commercial skills that employers highly value.*
Confidence Gap
Communication, teamwork and professional habits are rarely developed before entering the workplace.
Lack of Experience
Many 18-22 year olds lack practical work experience and have never worked inside a professional environment.

The Prologue Early Career Accelerator
The Prologue Early Career Accelerator is a practical, one-year programme for ambitious young adults who want a clear, structured and credible route into the professional workplace.
The programme is designed to develop the clarity, capability and confidence needed to take their first step into work.

Prologue is not a gap year.
It is a deliberate, ambitious choice made by young adults who want to start building their careers now, with clearer direction, real experience, real skills and real employer relationships behind them.
-
Small cohorts: Tight-knit peer groups backed by personal support and 1-2-1 mentoring throughout the entire programme.
-
Practical learning: Project-based modules focused entirely on developing the commercial skills that modern employers value.
-
Progressive work experience: A curated sequence of real-world placements designed to build a professional network and CV.
-
Future direction: Dedicated coaching, career profiling and guidance to give each student a clear, specific picture of where they are headed.
The Programme
Prologue is run like a business, not a university.
Students follow an integrated curriculum delivered by industry professionals, combining small-group, boardroom-style learning with real workplace experience.
Our 3-term, 36-week timetable mirrors the rhythm of a typical working day - building the habits, routines, and disciplines that accelerate early-career success.

The year is progressive and built around four core areas:
Personal Development
Building the self-awareness, professional habits, communication skills, and the leadership capability that employers value most in early-career hires.
Commercial Knowledge
Learning how businesses work, how they make money, how industries operate and how to think commercially in any environment.
Technical Fluency
Mastering the professional technology toolkit, including Microsoft 365 and the AI tools that are now part of everyday professional life.
Real-World Experience
Spending time inside a partner business from Week 5, building progressive workplace experience across the year.
Work Experience
Alongside structured learning, Prologue students will undertake an individualised work experience programme that is deliberately sequenced to build your confidence and capability.

Through placements, projects, conversations with business leaders and practical collaboration with Prologue Business Partners, students develop their professional foundations - how to conduct themselves, how to observe, how to contribute. Later placements raise the stakes as students take on real responsibility, receive genuine feedback from experienced professionals and are expected to perform as if they were part of the business.
-
Individualised work placements: Work experience placements are tailored around specific areas of interest and emerging career direction.
-
Industry insights: Regular, interactive sessions and direct Q&As with established business leaders across a range of sectors.
-
Real business cases: Students tackle live briefs and commercial projects set by partner businesses and present your output back to real clients.
-
Professional mentoring: 1-2-1 guidance from an experienced professional mentor helps each student make the most from their work experience.

Exploring Alternatives to University?
If, like an increasing number of young adults, you feel that university isn't the right pathway for you, your next step is to find out more about the Prologue Early Career Accelerator.

Use the button below to book an informal phone call with our founder, Simon Selkirk. Tell him where you are, what you are thinking and he'll give you straight answers.
If Prologue is a potential solution, you can arrange a visit.
If it's not, you can discuss what is.

About our Founder
Simon Selkirk has spent the last six years of his career in education, teaching Economics and Business at A-Level and as a key member of the Sixth Form Leadership Team of Stamford School, one of the UK's leading independent schools.
He spent the first 20 years of his career in the recruitment industry - the last 15 years as founder and Managing Director of his own consultancy.
This combination - knowing what employers need and understanding the dilemmas students face when leaving school - is rare.
Simon is also a parent of university-age children and has lived first-hand the frustrations that young adults experience when faced with their post-school options.
Prologue is his answer to this.
Who is Prologue for?
The Prologue Early Career Accelerator is designed specifically for capable, ambitious young adults who are at a crossroads. The programme is ideal for:
-
Students leaving sixth form without a clear understanding of what they want to study at university or a clear idea of their route into work.
-
Those returning from a gap year having experienced life outside formal education and wanting a structured, supported pathway to launch their career.
-
Current university students who have concluded that 8 hours a week in the lecture theatre is not preparing them as well for their future as they had hoped.
-
Recent graduates who feel unprepared for the world of work.
Regardless of their starting point, Prologue gives motivated young adults the commercial skills, professional confidence and career direction to take a clear, credible first step into the world of work.
